Tonight the GSL will have it's second half of Code S (The Premier league) and Min Chul will be looking to take one more step towards his redemption for falling out of the GSL completely. So far he's looked unbelievably good. Well the stats at least point towards that. However if you actually watch the games you will see a very dominant trend MC's play. Two-base All ins.
Basically this involves getting your second base established and saturated (having enough workers to maximize resource harvesting) with workers and then building a huge army and attacking. If the attack fails you lose the game, if it's successful you win. It's led to a whole lot of 12-15 minute games that really only showcase a couple of things. 1 is that MC has some of the absolute best Micro in the world, making units that should have been killed live on and do ridiculous amounts of damage. The 2nd is that MC can read an opponent like no other. You might be thinking to yourself, "Why doesn't anyone who knows they're playing MC make a build (strategy) that simply can't lose to a 2-base all in? It's because MC never looks like he's going to do an all in until he spots a weakness in his opponents play and quickly alters his to exploit said weakness. Going for a third a little to quick? Sorry 7-gate Immortal bust crushes you underneath your greedy bottom. No bunkers? That's funny cause you just lost half your army to perfect force fields. There are quite a few examples of these things.
This all boils down to 1 point. Is MC any good really? Or has he just found a play style people need to get used to? The question will ultimately be answered as the year progresses and a few things happen. A MC changes his playstyle as people figure him out. (See Meta-game) B MC does really well for a little while and then drops off the grid once people figure it out. C His style is actually really really smart and every other Protoss emulates it creating an awful world where only PvP lasts longer than 20 minutes. Only the future will tell.
EDIT: MC Get's socked by MVP Genius including the long awaited PvP endgame. Genius demonstrated that Immortals are really good and preventing MC from getting set up for 2-base all ins will destroy MC.
